Extra Embryos

After completing IVF successfully, what do you do with any extra embryos?  Do you vitrify them?  Donate them to another couple?  Donate them to science?  Or toss them?
This is a tough decision and it can be heartbreaking or test your values and belief systems.   We were told that if we had extras that we wouldn’t use they would get tossed.  To do anything else with them would be a long drawn out legal process.  Not only would the legal process cost additional money, but keeping the embryo’s vitrified during that process is expensive.
What is our ethical responsibility??  How do you make such a tough decision?  Let’s talk…..
