Many biological and medical factors can impact fertility here are some of the more common barriers to conception:

  • Problems with a fertilized egg or embryo being able to attach to the lining of the uterus or survival after it has attached.
  • Problems with the eggs being able to move from the ovary to the uterus.
  • Problems with ovaries being able to produce eggs.
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Clotting disorders
  • Defects of uterus and cervix
  • Excessive exercising, eating disorders, or nutrition
  • Exposure to some medications, chemicals, or toxins
  • Drug or alcohol use
  • Hormone imbalances or deficencies
  • Chronic diseases, such as diabetes
  • Overweight
  • Age
  • Ovarian cysts and/or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Pelvic infection or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
  • Scaring from STD’s or endoretriosis

The Dudes

  • A decrease in sperm count
  • Sperm being blocked from being released
  • Sperm that do not work properly
  • Enviromental factors (pollutants, chemicals, toxins, etc)
  • Exposure to high heat for long periods of time
  • Genetic abnormalities
  • Heavy use of alcohol or other substances
  • Hormone deficency or elevation
  • Impotence
  • Infections of the testes or epididymis
  • Age
  • Previous chemotherapy
  • Scaring due to infection (including STD’s), trauma or surgery
  • Radiation exposure
  • Retrograde ejaculation
  • Smoking
  • Surgery or trauma
  • Certian prescription drugs
